STORED PRODUCT TEAM PRIORITIES

1. Commercial storage management a. Develop system approaches to economical management decisions that integrate grain receiving storage and pest management, handling and processing, and distribution functions. b. Develop economic models to assist blending, selling, and pest management decisions, including fumigation sequencing decisions c. Implement electronic insect and temperature monitoring d. Develop innovative financing arrangements, such as cost-sharing, for these technologies.

2. Quality management in food processing, warehouse storage, and retail outlets a. Improve pest management programs b. Improve product security programs c. Assess costs, benefits, and risks of these programs

3. On-farm storage management a. Encourage sealing of existing storages b. Encourage development and construction of new storages that can be better managed c. Implement aeration in existing storage facilities d. Develop marketing schedules for on-farm storage systems e. Develop economic models to assist selling and insect management decisions.

4. Management of multiple grains and oilseeds in small storages a. Develop cleaning systems so various grains are not contaminated from previous grain b. Develop techniques to manage pest problems associated with various grains c. Develop strategies for marketing multiple grains in small facilities

5. Quality-Oriented Storage and Handling a. Identify quality characteristics of Oklahoma grains b. Develop quality-oriented segregation strategies c. Develop economically optimal blending and handling strategies d. Improve storage and handling systems for specialized markets

6. Bioterrorism prevention and response a. Identify effective systems-based strategies to prevent and respond to contamination of grain storage, transportation, and processing functions b. Assess costs, benefits, and risks associated with these strategies.

7. Implement organic approaches to pest management a. Develop better storage structures b. Encourage use of air to manage temperature c. Improve non-fumigant gases and biologically based controls
