Cattle Receiving and Feeding

Priorities discussed:

1) Animal health response and economic impact of weaning calves on the farm vs. weaning calves on the truck (e.g., determining post-weaning value of programs such as the Oklahoma Quality Beef Network).

2) Effects of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) on the mechanisms associated with the interaction between immune response, adipocyte and muscle biology, and meat quality.

3) Identifying cow herds and educating producers regarding the prevalence and impact of bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) in Oklahoma.

4) Value of networking within the beef cattle industry on animal health and profitability of Oklahoma beef cattle producers.

5) Efficacy of use of animal ID and biosensor technology for managing health and performance of cattle from receiving through the packing plant.
